What an online OLED test can reveal

OLED pixels emit their own light, so they behave differently from a backlit LCD. A browser can provide controlled pixel values for visual inspection, but it cannot measure luminance, colour accuracy or response time.

True black and bright pixels

On a true #000000 signal, OLED pixels should switch off. A bright or coloured point is easier to see against this field, although dust and reflections should be ruled out first.

Near-black detail

Very dark steps help show whether shadow detail is being crushed. Room light, gamma, HDR processing and the selected picture mode all affect what should be visible.

Uniformity and tinting

Low-gray fields can reveal vertical bands, patches or pink and green tinting. Some variation is common; judge whether it remains distracting at a normal viewing distance.

Retention versus burn-in

Temporary image retention may fade after varied content or a normal compensation cycle. Permanent burn-in is persistent uneven wear and cannot be repaired by a website.

FAQ / OLED

Questions before an OLED test.

01Can this OLED test damage my screen?

The sequence is deliberately brief and changes patterns frequently. Avoid pausing on a bright static field and follow the care guidance from your display manufacturer.

02Does pure black prove that my OLED is calibrated?

No. It only checks visible behaviour at a black input value. Calibration, luminance and colour accuracy require suitable measurement hardware.

03How do I tell retention from permanent burn-in?

Repeat the observation after varied normal content and the manufacturer’s normal compensation cycle. Temporary retention can fade; permanent uneven wear remains visible.

04Can I use the test on an AMOLED phone?

Yes. Modern mobile browsers can display the same controlled fields, though automatic brightness, colour modes and browser controls may influence what you see.
