11MOTION / BROWSER TIMING

Motion & Refresh Rate Test

Follow a high-contrast target moving across the display. Use it to compare motion clarity and trailing between settings or displays.

How to use this test

  1. 01

Clean the screen gently and let it reach its normal operating temperature.

  2. 02

Set browser zoom to 100% and use the brightness and picture mode you normally use.

  3. 03

Start fullscreen mode. Use arrow keys, Space, click or touch to change patterns.

  4. 04

Observe from your normal position first, then move closer only to inspect a detail.

OBSERVE

What to look for

  • Blurred edges around the moving target
  • Dark or coloured trails behind it
  • Visible judder or irregular motion

INTERPRET

How to read the result

Motion clarity depends on pixel response, refresh rate, persistence, overdrive and browser scheduling. Compare one setting at a time.

LIMITS

Limits of a browser test

RequestAnimationFrame timing is not laboratory instrumentation. Background load, compositor behaviour and refresh-rate switching can affect the estimate.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01Does the shown estimate prove my exact refresh rate?

No. It is a browser-timing estimate and may differ from a hardware measurement or the display’s active signal report.

02What causes inverse ghosting?

Aggressive overdrive can overshoot the target value and create a bright or dark halo trailing moving objects.
